Advanced Concepts Class (ACC) is Test Academy's foundational course for primary school students. It builds the core skills in Mathematics, English, Thinking Skills, and Writing that underpin both OC and Selective exam preparation — systematically addressing gaps before they become obstacles.
Who this course is for
- Year 3, Year 4, and Year 5 students building foundations for exam preparation
- Students starting Year 3 who plan to eventually sit the OC or Selective test
- Students already in OC Mastery or Selective Mastery who need additional reinforcement in core subjects
Most students begin ACC at the start of Year 3. The course runs through to Year 5 Term 4, with OC Mastery or Selective Mastery beginning alongside it at the appropriate stage.
Pathway from ACC
ACC is a dual-pathway course that feeds directly into both programs:
- OC pathway: OC Mastery begins alongside ACC from Year 3 Term 2 or 3
- Selective pathway: Selective Mastery begins alongside ACC from Year 5 Term 1 or 2
- ACC concludes: at the end of Year 5 Term 4
What you'll cover
Four subjects are taught systematically every session:
- Mathematics — number sense, operations, fractions, ratios, percentages, angles, area, measurement, multi-step problem solving
- Thinking Skills & Problem Solving — logical reasoning, pattern recognition, spatial awareness, abstract thinking, and lateral problem solving
- English & Reading — vocabulary, comprehension strategies, passage analysis, grammar, and inference skills
- Writing — essay structure, creative and persuasive writing, sentence variety, grammar, and self-editing techniques
How classes work
- Duration: 2.5 hours per session
- Class size: Maximum 8 students
- Format: In-person only — Parramatta campus
- Frequency: Weekly throughout the school term
Classes are structured to cover all four subjects every week. The curriculum is designed to build progressively from Year 3 through Year 5 — not as isolated topics, but as an integrated, cumulative program.
