A pathway to OC Mastery for mid-Year 3 and Year 4 students, and to Selective Mastery for mid-Year 5 and Year 6 students. Also available alongside OC Mastery or Selective Mastery to continue mastery of essential skills and techniques.
Students build strong fundamentals across four subjects before progressing to OC or Selective-specific preparation. Each topic is covered systematically, ensuring gaps are addressed early.
Covers number sense, operations, fractions, ratios, angles, and multi-step problems. Students develop computational fluency and problem-solving skills aligned with OC and Selective exam requirements.
Covers logical reasoning, pattern recognition, spatial awareness, and abstract thinking — progressing from foundational concepts to the multi-step problems found in OC and Selective exams.
Vocabulary building, reading comprehension strategies, and passage analysis. Students develop the speed and accuracy needed for timed exam conditions across OC, Selective, and NAPLAN formats.
Structured essay technique, creative and persuasive writing, grammar, and editing. Writing is assessed in Selective and NAPLAN exams — this component ensures students can plan and produce quality responses under timed conditions.
Advanced Concepts is the starting point for all students, leading into either the OC or Selective preparation track.
All students start ACC at the beginning of Year 3. ACC covers Maths, English, Thinking Skills, and Writing, and ideally continues through to Year 5 Term 4.
Depending on readiness and confidence from ACC, OC Mastery begins in Term 2 or Term 3. Runs alongside ACC, introducing OC-specific exam strategies and question types.
ACC and OC Mastery run together through to Year 4 Term 1 (inclusive). OC Mastery covers exam-specific drills, timed past papers, and test technique.
Students sit the OC placement test having covered all required content and practised under timed exam conditions.
After the OC test, students continue ACC through to Year 5 Term 4. ACC builds the depth in Maths, English, and Thinking Skills required for Selective preparation.
Depending on readiness and confidence from ACC, Selective Mastery begins in Term 1 or Term 2. Runs alongside ACC, focusing on applying concepts under timed, exam-style conditions.
Selective Mastery runs through to Year 6 Term 1 (inclusive). Covers full test simulations, time management, and exam strategy under test conditions.
Students sit the Selective test having completed structured, multi-year preparation covering all tested areas.
After the Selective test, students can continue into High School Maths Mastery, which covers the full Year 7 maths curriculum before high school begins.

"Test Academy’s teachers are compassionate, knowledgeable, and creative. My daughter’s confidence in maths grew significantly in just one term, and her second school report clearly showed a meaningful improvement in her mathematical skills. My son, even though he is in kindergarten and not usually a fan of school, absolutely loves his classes at Test Academy and remembers what he learns there. We are very grateful for the supportive and inspiring environment they create for children."
"We’re so proud of our daughter’s progress in thinking skills where she used to struggle. Thanks to the support from test academy, she went into the selective test feeling prepared and walked out confident in her performance. The improvement has been amazing, huge thanks to the team for helping her reach this point!"
Advanced Concepts Class is designed for Year 3, Year 4, and Year 5 students. Year 3 students typically attend every term throughout Year 3. Year 4 students can join fresh — whether coming straight from the OC Mastery track or beginning the Selective pathway for the first time — attending from Term 2 through to Year 5. Year 5 students attend in preparation for Selective Mastery, which typically begins in Term 2 or 3 of Year 5.
Advanced Concepts is the foundational course that sets students up for our intensive exam prep programs. Year 3 students typically transition into OC Mastery from Term 2 or 3, continuing through to Year 4 Term 1 before the OC Test. Year 4 students — whether starting fresh or continuing after OC prep — attend Advanced Concepts from Term 2, building toward Selective Mastery which begins in Year 5 Term 2 or 3.
Not at all. While the curriculum increases in complexity from Year 3 to Year 5, we deliberately revisit and re-teach the most important foundational skills and concepts throughout the program. Students who join at Year 4 or Year 5 will not have missed anything that cannot be picked up — our teachers identify any gaps and address them as part of normal teaching.
Yes — Advanced Concepts is available concurrently with OC Mastery or Selective Mastery. Many students continue with Advanced Concepts alongside their exam prep class, as it reinforces core skills and deepens understanding while the mastery class focuses on exam-specific technique and strategy.
Yes — mid-term enrolment is available. Families pay pro-rata for the remaining sessions in the term, so you're never charged for classes that have already passed.
When you enrol, our system guides you through a digital consultation on the student dashboard. We gather information about your child's strengths, weaknesses, and goals to complete their student profile — so that teaching is personalised from day one.
If your child misses a session, they can attend any other available session that week — simply email us in advance to notify. Depending on availability, they may also be able to join an online session instead.
The Test Academy dashboard is your central hub. Parents can track improvement over time, view test analytics, and review personalised teacher feedback after every session. Regular assessments give you a clear, data-driven picture of where your child is excelling and what still needs attention.
All tutors are selective high school graduates with a 98+ ATAR who have at least a few years of teaching experience. They are undertaking or have completed Law or STEM degrees at USyd or UNSW.
