"Wow! What an amazing college with incredibly patient and gifted instructors. Their entire approach is highly focused on selective school test readiness. We started with a full-day “real world” mock test, which gave us an excellent benchmark of where our son stood just one term before the actual selective test. We then enrolled him in their online course, which included weekly practice tests and detailed debrief sessions covering time management, test strategies, and identifying areas wher…"

"My two children explored Test Academy and Matrix Education for their selective and OC tests in 2026. Our recommendation goes to Test Academy due to their computer-based, instant assessment. My children have really benefited from seeing the percentile and different graphs to understand their comparative progress visually. Their online writing modules show where the mistake is, help to improve vocabulary, and provide the best sample answer. Along with that, their ability to teach complex topics i…"

"We’ve had such a positive experience with Test Academy Tutoring run by Arya and Aryan. The flexiclasses have been a particularly helpful addition, offering that extra layer of support to further enhance both our kids’ capacities. The flexible nature of the program means they can focus on areas where progress is needed, while still maintaining consistency with the theory being covered. What really stands out is the dedication and care Arya and Aryan put into every session. They create an enco…"

Frequently asked questions

When you enrol, our system guides you through a digital consultation on the student dashboard. We gather information about your child's strengths, weaknesses, and entry goals to complete their student profile — so that teaching is personalised from day one and we can make better recommendations as teachers.

If your child misses a session, they can attend any other available session that week — simply email us in advance to notify. Depending on availability, they may also be able to join an online session instead.

The Test Academy dashboard is your central hub. Parents can track improvement over time, view deep test analytics including percentiles and timing data, and review personalised teacher feedback after every session.

All tutors are selective high school graduates with a 98+ ATAR who have at least a few years of teaching experience. They are undertaking or have completed Law or STEM degrees at USyd or UNSW.

Yes — switching between online and in-person attendance is possible with notice to our admin team. We're happy to accommodate flexibility where we can.

Yes. During online enrolment, we offer a multi-term discount for families who are committed to ongoing preparation — just as we're committed to helping your child thrive.

Returning students who re-enrol for non-multi-term courses receive a 5% discount — permanently. Once you're part of the Test Academy family, you're always looked after.

Yes. A 5% sibling discount is provided upon request when two or more students from the same family are joining, or if an existing sibling is already enrolled with us.

That's great — they're already getting support, which is the most important thing. Many of our students actually come from other tutoring centres when they're looking for something more tailored, better technology and student engagement, and more personalised attention from top-quality teachers.

Ideally from Term 1 or Term 2 of Year 3. That said, we regularly help students make significant jumps in marks across all sections with just one term of preparation.

We offer a free first session subject to availability. That said, most parents commit knowing they can leave within the first two weeks — and almost all end up staying.

Just stationery, a snack, and water. Everything else — from printed booklets and worksheets to computers — is provided by us. We don't do BYOD.

Since the OC Test doesn't have a writing section, we replace it with a Mastery Test — a custom assessment that deliberately exposes students to question types they're still struggling with. This targeted approach finetunes their understanding and accelerates improvement where it matters most.

NSW Opportunity Class Practice Tests — Complete Guide

The NSW Opportunity Class (OC) Test is administered by the NSW Department of Education to select Year 4 students for placement in Opportunity Classes — academic streams in Years 5 and 6 at 88 OC primary schools across NSW. The test is delivered fully online and covers Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, and Thinking Skills. Each year approximately 13,000–15,000 candidates sit for around 1,840 available places — making structured preparation important rather than optional. Test Academy's bundle catalogue covers all three OC sections; bundles are split between Essential (6-month access) and Complete (12-month access plus LearningHub and a WritingHub head-start for Selective).

What the OC Test tests, section by section

Reading. OC Reading tests inference, vocabulary in context, and main idea identification across short passages. Year 4 students should be comfortable reading on screen, scrolling between passage and questions, and managing time across multiple texts. Test Academy's reading bank is calibrated to OC-style passage length and complexity.

Mathematical Reasoning. OC Mathematical Reasoning practice questions cover number, geometric reasoning, time and measurement, and worded problem-solving. The OC level is markedly harder than Year 4 classroom maths — strong students typically build fluency by completing hundreds of varied items, not by drilling one topic in isolation.

Thinking Skills. OC Thinking Skills practice is the section most students find hardest — logical reasoning, pattern recognition, lateral problem-solving, and identifying flawed arguments. This is also the section where the largest score gains come from consistent practice rather than tutoring on specific content.

How the OC Test is scored

Each section's raw mark is scaled and combined into an OC test score. There is no single fixed cut-off — entry scores vary by school and year. The NSW DoE publishes general guidance but not school-by-school cut-offs. Equity placements account for up to 20% of OC offers: 10% for students from low socio-educational advantage backgrounds, 5% for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, with further allocations for rural/remote students and students with disability.

When to start preparing

Year 3 students with a year to go can build the floor at a relaxed pace; Year 4 students with weeks to go should sharpen rather than cram. See the tiered preparation roadmap above for recommended pace at 12, 6, 3, and 1 month out. Volume alone doesn't drive improvement — the quality of review after each test matters far more than the number of tests completed.

How OC and Selective preparation overlap

Students who sit the OC Test in Year 4 are often the same students who'll sit the Selective Test in Year 6. The Complete OC Prep Bundle includes WritingHub — even though OC has no writing section — specifically to start Selective writing prep early. The 2-year head-start on the rubric, prompt types, and feedback loop pays off when the Year 6 test arrives.

2025 Bruniges review aftermath

Following the 2025 Bruniges independent review of test-day disruptions, NSW DoE has tightened OC venue logistics in parallel with Selective: maximum 300 students per large venue and 180 per smaller venue, with the department directly overseeing logistics and dashboard transparency from 2026 onwards. Multiple test versions are now used to reduce any version-difficulty advantage.

From the 2027 intake — gender equity

OC classes will offer equal numbers of girls' and boys' places from the 2027 intake at coeducational OC primary schools, mirroring the gender equity rule introduced for Selective high schools. The OC application and testing format are unchanged.
