Writing tests and AI marking

1 min read Updated April 2026

Writing tests ask you to produce an extended written response — a narrative, persuasive essay, or other form depending on the prompt. These are marked by AI.

Submitting your writing

  1. Read the prompt carefully.
  2. Type your response in the large text area. A word counter is shown below the input.
  3. Click Finish Test when you're done. The response is submitted automatically.

What the AI marks

  • Content and ideas
  • Structure and organisation
  • Language and vocabulary
  • Spelling and grammar

Interpreting feedback

AI feedback is detailed and actionable — read through each point. Use it as a starting point for discussion with your teacher in class or in a FlexiClass session. If a specific comment seems unclear, ask your teacher to explain it further.

Writing attempt limits

Some bundles include a limit on writing test attempts. If you see the message "You have reached the limit of 2 writing attempts. Please upgrade to a Premium bundle or purchase WritingHub access" on your dashboard, you'll need to purchase additional writing access to continue.

Marking times

AI marking typically completes within a few minutes of submission. If your writing results haven't appeared after 30 minutes, contact support.
