Adaptive difficulty in the Learning Hub

1 min read Updated April 2026

The Learning Hub tracks your performance on each skill individually and adjusts question difficulty to keep you in the right challenge zone.

Four difficulty levels

  1. Foundational
  2. Moderate
  3. Difficult
  4. Very Difficult

You start at Foundational unless you already have performance data for that skill.

Moving up in difficulty

The system looks at your accuracy across your last 4 attempts on a skill:

  • Selective/OC preparation: advance when recent accuracy is ≥ 75%
  • FlexiClass: advance when recent accuracy is ≥ 90% (more gradual progression)

Moving down in difficulty

If recent accuracy drops below 40%, the system moves you to a lower level so you can rebuild the foundational understanding before progressing again.

Mastery

Each skill has a mastery score from 0.0 to 1.0, calculated as:

  • 40% weight on overall accuracy (all attempts ever)
  • 60% weight on recent accuracy (last 4 attempts)

Reaching mastery earns a Mastery badge and XP. Skills with high mastery are shown in your Performance dashboard.

Your skillset

Your account has a skillset setting — either OC/Selective or FlexiClass — which determines which skills are available and the advancement threshold used. If you think yours is set incorrectly, contact support.
